My initial idea was to incorporate historical aspects of the site to shape the design.

PORT    - waterway with facilities for loading and unloading ships
           - protection from storms and rough water
           - an opening/cylinder for the passage of steam or fluid
           - a place where data can pass in or out of a central processing unit
           - INTERFACE

--->  place of CONNECTION
-------> place of PROTECTION

An image of a bunker. Historically the Howard Smith Wharves was used as an air raid shelter.

Objects define their interaction with the outside world through the methods they expose. Methods form the objects interface with the outside world.
